On Thursday, June 11, 2010, at 9:00 am, Zenona
Roberta Dorothea Friskie went home to be with Jesus. With her beloved
son Randy, and devoted friend
Ruby by her side, she decided she'’d fought the fight long enough,
and slipped away.
Survived by 4 children, 18 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, and
6 great-great grandchildren. Pre-deceased by her husband of 68 years
Gustav Edward Friskie, and son Everrett Friskie.
Mom was born November 25, 1924, in Regina Sask. She spent most of her
life, and raised her family, in Niagara Falls, Ont. Though she was adopted
at birth, her dream came true when she was reunited with her birth mother,
much later in life.
Mom will be remembered for her beautiful smile, and her love of pretty
things, especially if they sparkled! She could cook a turkey better
than anyone, and family dinners were legendary. She had a huge heart,
and
opened her home to anyone who needed a place to go. She was a foster
mom to many. But when she got mad - –watch out!! She was quick
to defend her children and those she loved.
An incredibly strong woman, she persevered even when crippled with injuries
and arthritis at an early age. Her sweet tooth was infamous, and she
loved to share a drink (or two) with friends.
Her last years were spent here in Abbotsford, BC, being cared for by
her son Randy. They went everywhere together and shared many an adventure.
It was a special time.
Mom, you are very loved, and will be missed so much. But we also celebrate,
knowing you are free of pain, and are reunited with so many you love.
Special thanks to the staff on Cheam 3, and Dr. Chafe, for your excellent
care at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Also, to the many Home Support
Workers who showed such loving care over the last few years.
Services will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday June 18th at Alderbrook Community
Church, #203-3600 Townline Road, Abbotsford. Viewing from 6:00 to 7:00.
Following the service, a celebration of Mom's life will be held at Bob's
Bar and Grill, 27083 Fraser Hwy, Aldergrove, BC.
